The Most Valuable Rust Items by Market Cap (October 2026)
The top Rust skins by market cap as of October 14, 2026, why clothing sets dominate, and why a $1,100 Big Grin ranks below an $87 pair of pants.
"Most valuable" can mean two things in Rust. One is the highest price for a single copy. The other is the most total value sitting in player inventories. This ranking uses the second, market cap, because it shows where the money in the Rust economy actually is. As of October 14, 2026, rustskins.gg puts the combined market cap of 5,537 priced Rust items at about $172.8 million.
How market cap is calculated
For each item, rustskins.gg multiplies the current lowest listing on the Steam Community Market by an estimated supply. Supply is derived from public Steam inventory data and market activity, and the figures update hourly. A skin with 30,000 copies and a $50 lowest listing has a market cap of $1.5 million.
Every figure in this post is from October 14, 2026 unless another date is given. Keep two limits in mind. The price is an asking price, not a guaranteed sale price. The supply is an estimate, not an official count from Facepunch or Valve.

What the ranking says
Clothing sets run the market
Nine of the top ten are clothing from just three sets. The pattern holds further down: 39 of the top 50 are clothing, and 40 of the top 50 come from seven named sets.
| Set | Items in the top 50 |
|---|---|
| Forest Raiders | 8 |
| Whiteout | 8 |
| Desert Raiders | 7 |
| Blackout | 7 |
| Neon (storage) | 5 |
| Arctic Protection | 3 |
| Comics | 2 |
Most of these started as cheap limited store skins. Community trackers record the Forest Raiders pieces at $2.49 each in 2021. They now lead because players want the complete look, and every wipe they craft new armor to wear it on. The leader, the Forest Raiders Roadsign Pants, has the highest price of its set, with supply similar to the other pieces.
Two routes to the top
Market cap rewards both scale and scarcity, and the top ten has clear examples of each.
The Whiteout Hoodie gets to number two on volume: about 81,912 copies at $20.18. The Big Grin, a Metal Facemask skin from 2016, gets to number six with only about 1,283 copies at $1,100.00 each. It's the most expensive item in the top 50 by a wide margin, yet it ranks below a pair of pants priced under $90. Scarcity makes a skin expensive per copy. Being owned widely makes it big.
Weapons are thin at the top
Only four weapon skins make the top 50: the Comics AR at number 20, the Alien Red at 27, the Heat Seeker Mp5 at 46 and the Glory AK47 at 47. The Alien Red and Glory AK47 are early, low-supply skins from 2017. The Comics AR and Heat Seeker Mp5 are high-volume store skins.
Deployables earn their place
Seven Misc items make the top 50. Five are Neon storage boxes, led by the Neon Boom Storage at number 16. One is the Brutalist Sheet Metal Door at number 42. The odd one out is Christmas Lights at number 35. It's a deployable item rather than a skin, listed at $165.00 with about 2,996 copies, and dates to December 2017.
How the leaders moved recently
The top of the ranking is not static. As of October 14, 2026, the Whiteout pieces in the top ten were up between about 14% and 19% over seven days. Over 30 days, the Forest Raiders Roadsign Pants were down 13.54%, the Forest Raiders Helmet 13.03% and the Desert Raiders Facemask 12.77%. The Big Grin fell 9.04% over the week but was slightly up over the month. With only 14 Steam listings, one sale can move it noticeably.
For longer context, rustskins.gg also keeps a daily market cap chart going back to 2015. On that chart, the total stood at about $121.6 million on October 13, 2025 and peaked at about $207.0 million on August 15, 2026. The chart's daily figures are calculated separately from the live total quoted above, so compare chart points with each other rather than with the live number.
Why market cap overstates what you could sell for
Market cap is a useful map, but a poor price tag.
- The lowest listing is not the clearing price. On October 14, 2026, the Big Grin's lowest Steam listing was $1,100.00 across 14 listings. The highest Steam buy order was $1,000.01, and the cheapest third-party listing was $830.81. If every owner tried to sell at once, the price would fall.
- Steam takes a cut. Selling on the Community Market costs about 15%: a 5% Steam fee plus a 10% game fee. Proceeds also stay in a Steam Wallet.
- Supply is estimated. Inventory-based estimates can miss private inventories or count inactive accounts. Treat supply figures as approximate.
- Thin markets move fast. Items with only a handful of Steam listings can jump or fall with one sale, which moves their market cap just as quickly.
Using the ranking
The ranking is most useful for spotting where demand is broad. A skin with tens of thousands of copies and a stable price has many owners and many buyers, which usually means you can sell it without moving the price much. A high-priced skin with a small supply is a collector's item. It may hold value, but finding a buyer at the listed price can take time.
The full ranking, with 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day changes, is on the market cap and trending page. For any single item, the price comparison tool shows how Steam's price compares with third-party marketplaces before you buy or sell.
